Here’s a roundup of some of the interesting events I’ve followed in the last week or so:
Happy Birthday Kuro-Chan! Today marks Akira Kurosawa’s 100th birthday. He has long been at the top of my list of favorite directors, and so if you have a moment this week, kick back and revisit The Seven Samurai, Yojimbo, Ran, Ikiru, or any of his films really. There will be something interesting to pick out in all.
Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution: I’ve blogged about this program before, and it’s finally premiered! Chef Jamie Oliver visits the unhealthiest town in America and attempts to reform their school lunch program and teach basic food skills. Visit the website to watch the first episode.
Sam Harris at TED: The stoic force of Sam Harris graced the TED stage this year, and his talk has just been posted online. He makes some controversial claims about deciding moral questions through scientific inquiry. Watch it!
*UPDATE – 3/30/10* – In response to his many critics, Sam Harris has posted a clarification and rebuttal on his site, Project Reason.
More Sam Harris! Sam and Skeptic Magazine founder Michael Shermer debated Deepak Chopra and Jean Houston in a Nightline sponsored event concerning the future of God. Watch the full debate here.
New Scientist has a fascinating article on a new design philosophy for image sensors, and The Economist breaks down the debate over the science of climate change.
To wrap it all up, some of my good friends and film school buddies, based in LA, have begun producing a new web show called Cinema Cool. Their first video is a badass retrospective on the work of Charles Bronson. Watch it!
EPISODE 1 – TOP 10 BADASS BRONSON MOMENTS IN MOVIE HISTORY from cinemacool on Vimeo.
In our premiere episode we look at Charles Bronson: The Man…The Myth…The Legendary Badass.
