I’m at the new IMPOSSIBLE PROJECT Gallery in NYC. I’m about to blow all my savings on film. Oy…

THE INTERNET SUPPORTS YOU

I’m a regular Reddit and Digg reader. These are sites where anyone can post a link to something they find interesting, ask a question, or share just about anything they feel like. Based on how much people like what you post, it gets voted up or down, people comment on it, and word spreads.

Sometimes people come to the Reddit community asking for help. These are examples of where the Internet shines brightest.

In this post, someone asked the Reddit community to Photoshop out the breathing apparatus in the last picture he had of his Mom before she died from cancer. The community leapt at the chance to be of help, and within hours, multiple versions came in, all expertly done, fixing the photo to preserve this precious memory.

Then, just this morning, I discovered this post, in which a 17 year old gay kid just suffered the crushing rejection of his parents, and is being kicked out of his house. He’s asked for advice, and once again, the internet community has responded with an outpouring of support and suggestions for where he can find help, and how he can support himself. In fact, some people are even beginning to fundraise to help him out! UPDATE: IN fact, someone has offered to let him move in with them in Scotland, and someone else has offered to pay for the airfare should he decide to go!

Anyway, I just wanted to throw that out there. It fills me with hope.

THE ROUNDUP – 4/28/10

My my! What a difference a day makes. The whole direction of my life suddenly lifted off its rusty track and placed on a Mag-Lev.

Clouded Leopard

This has triggered a number of minutes to be lost in contemplative thought. I have reached a few decisions about what I want my future career to look like. To sum it up, I want to be a photographer/videographer, and if possible, break into nature photography and journalism on my own terms. This may or may not involve a trip to Borneo to search for Clouded Leopards. I’m all about letting the optimism and creative spirit flow right now. I’m not at all interested in the “what if’s” and “you can’t do that’s” and “that may not work’s” anymore.

It may also involve moving to San Francisco, and beginning to build media momentum to support the Prop 8 trial when it hits the Supreme Court. Anti-gay rights forces will put out commercials saying things like “gays want to teach your kindergarteners how to give blow jobs and give them AIDS”, and if history proves anything, our side will react with the classic “I’m a Grandmother and this is my gay son, and I love him…” spot, and then sulk in a corner. Well that won’t do. Continue reading
